September. This crew has motion

Greetings from the greatest city in America: Oakland, CA. The sun is shining and Mother Tongue Café is bustling. This place has pink-tinted windows and the best work vibes. There are writers, founders, artists and a white dude reading a crisp new copy of Infinite Jest. No, that is not me…today. Anyhoo, hope you’re good. I want to keep y’all looped in on our progress as we build TWIN STAR into the next big thing in comics. You’re not in the skybox, you’re courtside. You’re my VIP list.

These last two months at TWIN STAR have been about getting the offense up and running. On the product side, I’ve got folks helping develop the app. Everyone’s busy, so I’ve been crafting them Snack-Size Work Blocks. It’s working. Things are moving. On fundraising, we’re rolling in with a downright killer And1-style mixtape pitch deck. The future of comics is getting built in real time, possession by possession.

Here’s what we’ve accomplished in August & September:

  • Product & Design: Locked a UX/product brief, ran design sprints, and started visual treatment of the storefront + reader. High-polish mockups are underway for the pitch deck.

  • Business Infrastructure: Stood up the financial back end (LLC, S-Corp election, business banking, and bookkeeping) so we’re ready to handle scale. Still some papers to get to their proper homes.

  • Deck & Strategy: Refined our pitch deck with trusted investors and founders in my circle. It’s lean, clear, and aligned to the market opportunity.

  • Advisory Conversations: Started pulling in seasoned voices across storytelling, product, and venture to sharpen both our vision and execution.

  • Community & IP: Fulfilled the BINARY Kickstarter, launched online sales, and kept building our local comics footprint with signings and Good Vibes Comic Club events. We’ve also developed an online ad campaign to roll out in October.

  • Fundraising: Let’s be real, folks. This is the number one priority. Right now the operation is running on my charm (maximum Payton Pritchard sixth-man energy), but once we can actually pay folks, we’ll hit warp speed. I’m working the contacts list, setting picks, and lining up meetings so we can start finishing at the rim. A Ja Morant comic book company.

The point is: we’re not waiting for permission. We’re building the thing, step by step, with the right systems and people in place.

Whether as sounding boards, connectors, or future investors I appreciate you. More next month!

Next up:

  • Product: Mockups for storefront + reader in progress.

  • Business: LLC + S-Corp set up, banking + bookkeeping live.

  • Community/IP: BINARY ad campaign learnings

  • Fundraising: We are going to raise 100K by Thanksgiving.
